After graduating from Bangalore Medical College, Dr Hulse obtained his master's degree from Madras Medical College. He also received higher surgical training from the West of Scotland Deanery, the University of Liverpool, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK.

Dr. Hulse also has a US accredited fellowship in joint replacement surgery from St. Michael's University Hospital, Toronto, and has specialised in pelvic acetabular trauma at St. George's Hospital, London. During his six month work experience in London, he attended a hip arthroscopy course by the Richard Villar School. Dr Hulse has published two research theses and twenty-one research articles in indexed international journals.
