After graduating from Bangalore Medical College in 2001, Dr Puttaswamy pursued his MS in Orthopaedics at Madras Medical College. He graduated with two gold medals after topping his university, as well as the state of Tamil Nadu.

He worked at the PES Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PESIMSR) as an assistant and Associate Professor of Orthopaedics for four years, before moving to the United States for further surgical training under Dr Kenneth Krackow, an early pioneer of Un-cemented Total Knee Arthroplasty. He was then awarded a fellowship by Harvard University - it gave him the opportunity to train in paediatric orthopaedics at Massachusetts General Hospital, the birthplace of modern anaesthesia.

Dr Puttaswamy has worked with legendary figures in Paediatric Orthopaedics including Brian Grottkau, Maurice Albright, Saechin Kim, and Gleeson Rebello.

His academic expertise is reflected by the large number of students who have been taught by him at both under-graduate and graduate level. He has presented papers at national and international conferences and has a significant number of journal publications and textbook chapters to his credit.
